Television Picture Squashed In At Side

I’d appreciate some advice.
Recently I rescanned my TVand Humax hdr-fox t2 box. If I’m watching the TV with the signal coming in via the Humax the smaller stations are squashed in at the side, however, if the signal is coming in via my television then the picture is full screen.
I've turned the Humax completely off, disconneced the plug, and let the set idle for a few moments but that didn't help.
Picture quality is excellent wherever the signal is coming from.
Any suggestions as to what is going on here and how I might fix the problem.

Also even on some 16:9 services like Magic and your box is set up for 16:9 widescreen (and your television is set up for full mode in 16:9), you will sometimes get thin black side bars evident on some music videos stretched to 16:9.
The thin bars on the vids appear because of multigeneration copying in the video usually this happens on U-matic or multigeneration Beta SP editing and copying or 16mm film transferred to Beta SP for editing and/or adding special video effects to the clip.
Obviously some older music video clips are 4:3 pillarboxed because they aren't 16:9 widescreen.0 -

Although any programme made since the early 90's is unlikely to have seen either u-matic or beta sp. I suspect the fudge between the Humax and native TV tuners/decoders being set for domestic cut off on CRT monitors, looking at the OP0 -
Maybe this might help
Today at 9:45am I tuned into the following stations with these results:
Channels 1 - 5 as expected no problem either through my Humax Box of TV (The TV is a Sony Bravia)
A percular thing though was that Channel 4 +1 had bars when viewed via the Humax Box, none with the TV
ITV 4 Humax Bars, TV OK showing Magnum PI
Movie Mix showing Lucy OK on both Humax and TV
That was just a few examples. If you need any more I'll certainly have a
look.
As always many thanks for any help offered.

Magnum PI is 4:3 so it sounds to me as if the Humax is doing its job and the Sony Bravia is squashing the 4:3 to fit full screen (there'll be a technical term for this!). Check what aspect setting is set on the Sony. My guess is its something like "wide zoom" when "full" will display the native picture. (if you change anything REMEMBER what it was originally set to!).If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0
