Having recently received a Nexus 7 as a free gift for a mobile contract, I have discovered the world of ebooks, and the easiness of borrowing ebooks from my public library.
Does anyone know if there is an online global public library with a much larger selection?

I'm not sure, but I don't think there will be a global borrowing library that complies with UK law because of copyright licensing issues (and fee collection) in different countries.
However, a lot of "classic" literature has expired from copyright and is now in the public domain. A quick search bought up quite a few links that might be worth a look:

The Gutenberg project: http://www.gutenberg.org/ is a good place to start.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0
