Epson WiFi printer on a BT Home Hub 3.0

I'm trying to connect to my brand new Epson printer through WiFi but the darn thing doesn't want to play ball.
I've tried on two W8 + a MBA laptops.
The printer is connected to my WiFi router (at least it claims so).

So my question is about if there is any sort of blocking mechanism in the router that I need to attend to?
Or if anyone has had the same/similar problem I'd appreciate the input.

  • Have you run the set up CD on the laptop and got to the bit where it asks if it's first set up or and additional computer?

Of course, goes without saying. Have run it many times through and on 3 different devices.
When choosing the printer I noticed the people giving it low scores were complaining about problems setting it up. I guess I'm in that boat now hehe.

ps. are you a Pixies fan, going to see them in about a weeks time?

I ran through all the settings of the router without seeing the need to change anything.
Restarted the printer (never suggested in the manual) and all of a sudden the Epson Connect program found it. I'm not sure if it was as the result of manually adding the printer in Control Panel by IP or not.

Will try connecting the MBA later today.
  • Sorry didn't mean to ask a dumb Q (some people may not have done that tho!) was just wondering what stage you got to.

I have an Epson and I had initial problems getting it to connect to the router. Once it was on the router it was fine to set up the connection with my laptop (via the CD ROM). So it looks like a separate issue. It was made more complicated by the fact that my printer doesn't have an LCD, so its just a case of pressing buttons and seeing what lights flash.

Does your computer 'see' the printer on your network map?

Yup love the Pixies! Saw them when they did the Doolittle anniversary tour a few years back (Brixton). They're great live though I never saw them back in the day to compare.
  • Ah cool.

Once they're set up they seem to be no issue. Its just getting the things set up......

The MBA setup went fine. I guess it was restarting the printer that did the job...
**Edit** I have now identified that it is the BT hub (3) that is the problem, being lazy to allow access to it's registered devices.
