any home inspectors / surveyors on here?

I'm thinking of buying a house, but it has some diagonal cracking in the mortar, my structural surveyor friend looked at the house for me and said it wasn't from subsidence, i just want a second opinion..

Is this serious or not?

Here's a pic:

    How old is the property?

It doesn't look too bad, the gap is not massive but then again it may have only just occurred.

Is there any signs of movement inside the property? If there is then that's a sign of something a bit more serious.

I would rely on a report from a friend in the business rather than somebody who you don't know & can only give an opinion from looking at your picture to be honest.

If you don't trust your friends advice, then find another structural engineer or surveyor & get a 2nd opinion there. No use risking thousands of pounds on the opinion of strangers on a forum.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

The property is approx 10 years old

There are cracks in plaster on the inside of the house but not in connection to the outside staggered cracks which are under the window, so my friend says its not subsidence related.

House wasn't built like that, so something has moved. To find out what is moving in which direction, you usually draw a line perpendicular to the crack and see what seems like a contender. If it isn't subsidence related, see if he can suggest what it might be instead?
