NPower - Switching to them

I think i've made a great error contacting NPower to switch from SSE.

My initial contact to switch was on the 2nd October 2013, i have received one letter telling me "to sit back and we'll sort everything". That was around the 20th October. I've heard nothing since.

So due to the incompetence of this provider, my fixed rate with SSE is now finished and i'm paying for a very high priced Standard Tarrif.

I want out.

It takes 4 to 6 weeks to switch. Shouldn't be much longer now. Too late to back out now anyhow.
  • No but i can switch on the first day they provide me with energy, whenever that will be.

and i will, with no hesitation.
  • Is there anything stopping you contacting them to find out the progress of the switch over?

SSE should have placed a price hold on your account so you're not hit by higher rates during the switch. Some suppliers do this automatically and some would only do it if you ask, which you should anyway just to be sure.

Hi, have you received a welcome pack yet.

If not you can ring and cancel.

If yes you will have to sit tight and wait until the switch goes through.

Npower are hopeless and I will never return to them no matter how good an incentive they offer.

No, you can commence another switch-which will take 4-5 weeks again. Which means another period on Standard tariff (or another tariff with no exit fees).
You should have received your welcome pack weeks ago, so something is awry.
As above, you should have rejected the SSE increase in writing as detrimental within the allowed period, and informed them of your intention to switch. The increase should not then be applied.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Phone them haha. I've phoned them plenty of times, only to be hung up after waiting 45-60minutes, the call back scheme is a joke too, still waiting for a call back.

I phoned Swalec today who told me its switching over on the 21st, November, not a peep from Npower. I will be 100% switching on the 21st, 5 weeks waiting or not, this is a shambles of a company and i wont be waiting around to be messed about by them for a year or so like others.

I gave up transferring to them
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • You were made aware of the 4-6 weeks switch over timescale, you received a letter confirming your supply change was going ahead, what more do you expect during that time? Constant letters saying, hey it's fine we're still going ahead with the switch?

I agree their callback service eats !!!!!! but you seem to just be complaining for the sake of complaining.

Any switch over will take the same length of time and you'll get two or three letters over the course of the 4-6 weeks. As far as I can see there's no error on behalf of the provider, just customer impatience.
