Refurbished Laptop

Hi
We are looking for a refurbished laptop for our son to use at University, we only want to spend a maximum of £150, that is why we are thinking of a refurbished laptop.
We did consider a tablet but he really needs a keyboard for course work.
Just really know where best to look, i.e. we don't want to get ripped off.
Thanks for any advice that can be given.

£150 is a big ask. Around here we have a "Green Tech" company who work out of the local recycling place. Prices are reasonable, but the tech is, by necessity, quite old.
Have you tried Freecycle or your local equivalent? Worth waiting until the end of next month in the hope that Santa has upgraded someone.0 -

Looks alright for £85, just need a power adapter, and possibly a new battery, should still come in well under your £150 budget. Core 2 duo still got some poke, and the 2gb ram means XP will run alright, or preferably win 8 (uses less RAM than win 7)0 -
There are plenty of highly regarded Thinkpads X200 laptops on ebay between £100 and £200.
The example below is £140.
