E-credit Plus

Having obtained my credit file there is a debt owed to E-credit plus (Commonwealth Marketing) opened by the looks of it in March 2009. On my credit file it says I owe approximately £650 with no payments ever made on the account. Now the credit file has all monthly notifications as 6 so has never defaulted.
I personally do not acknowledge the account and the two items bought using the account are items I have never owned in my life and am currently investigating this with family and the 5 other people I lived with at that time.
I have contacted E-Credit Plus (Commonwealth Marketing) and they have said that £300 of the £650 are their own charges that may be willing to remove if the account can be paid off. Now I have said to them that I do not acknowledge the debt and am carrying out my own investigations before going to the police but am willing to pay the £350 if they can change my credit file to having defaulted in November/December 2009 so that at least if I cannot prove it one way or the other the debt will be off my file in 2 years time. The gentleman I spoke to has said he will look into this but then said Call Credit is very strict with regards to reporting and reporting history. I spoke to the disputes team at Noddle and they have informed me that it is possible but I have not heard anything back in 2 weeks now.
Can anyone suggest what I should do or any other options I could pursue.
Thanks as usual in advance! Most posters truly are stars!

Call credit display what a company tells them to. Is it on experian and equifax also?
I would write a formal complaint to e credit saying you know nothing of the debt and insist they remove it from your file.
Take to FOS if they say no.:beer:0 -
Hello all! Would like some further advice/help on this matter.
It has been 6 weeks now since I have been in communication with E-Credit Plus (am assuming they are a US based company) and their last communication states "Simon, while we have no legal obligation to do so, we are attempting to do everything that we can to default your account at an earlier date. There are limitations on our ability to do so, and they are not imposed by us, but rather, by the reporting agency. Thanks for your patience"
Please can someone advise as to who to contact/what to do. Many thanks

After 8 weeks with no final response, you might want to call the FOS.
They might be able to hurry them along a bit.:beer:0 -

Thanks - are they right in saying they have no legal obligation to do anything and that it is the reporting agency that will cause the issues of back dating a default?0 -

The ICO offer guidance on default dates. Call credit simply record what they are told, and there are so many examples on here of CRAs holding wildly inaccurate data. When queried by you with the CRA, they ask the company who say its correct then the CRA come back to you saying the company say the date is correct and they can't do anything.
So they are talking drivel...
