Highest limit credit cards

Which credit cards are offering the highest credit limits at the moment ?I know everybody's circumstances are different but i dont want to be applying for a credit card which only offer low credit limit as standard. My credit score with experian is saying excellent with a credit score of 963. I earn £35.000 a year . I have no outstanding debt no defaults missed payments etc .I need a high credit limit because im booking an expensive holiday and i want to put the balance on a credit card for security purposes . Anyone applied for a credit card lately and got a high credit limit ?

It would be totally dependent on your financial history and your circumstances. Some credit cards don't have a limit -- but you'd need to be a billionaire to apply. In reality, your best chances are for the bank which knows most about you -- typically who you have a current account with.

Are you referring to section 75 protection? If so, and it applies to your transaction (there are exclusions), then you only need to pay 'something' - even 1p will do - on the credit card to ensure the entire purchase cost is protected.

So, any old card with any old limit will do.
  • Oh right i did not know that but i dont have any credit cards at all i have never had any in the past . I have got a good past payment history as i have had hire purchase on a car in the past and also had a loan in the past so i still need a credit card but might as well get a high credit limit one if im getting one .

Then you're not giving anything for the lender to base their decisions (acceptance and limit) on. You have no history of managing a revolving credit facility. Your 963 number is therefore meaningless (hopefully you got it for nothing and didn't pay for it?).

    Could you define "high"?...£4K?...£7K?...£25K?

With no credit card history on your file, I'd be asking the bank that receives the £35K income for a card.

I pay £14.99 month to experian for my credit score and report i have been doing this for 2 years i get identity theft protection etc. so im happy with it .
Ok so you say i have no revolving credit well its a good idea to get a credit card then .
I dont get money paid directly into a bank i get paid cash it has been like this since i started with the company 35 years ago i do however get pay slips.
So does anyone know the answer to the question as you seem to be evading the question.

Well that's £360 I've saved then over the same period!

There isn't an answer to your question, because what works for some doesn't work for others.

You'll get 6 people saying Halifax gave them their highest limit card. 4 more will say LTSB. A couple will say NatWest...etc, etc.

However, MBNA do generally give some of the highest limits. I'd suggest applying there but not sure they'd accept you with a "high" limit if you haven't previously managed a credit card account.

Your bank isn't a 'guaranteed' option because it doesn't see a £2K+ BACS Direct Credit each month from your employer.

So, in summary, I'd try your bank first, then MBNA. If neither accept you, then you'll have to start with a credit-builder card (and it's accompanying £250 credit limit...but that won't concern you now since you know you won't need a large limit for the protection).

I'd agree with MBNA. I have 2 MBNA cards (one is ex-Virgin) and they both have the highest 2 limits of all the cards i've ever had. at least twice as high has my 3rd highest one

MBNA have certainly given me the highest credit limits of any card issuer over the years. At one point (pre-credit crunch) I had an MBNA card with a credit limit of £20,900, whilst having an annual income of £20K

I'd had the card for years and used to put some very large work expenses through it, so MBNA had presumably thought I was on a huge salary and kept upping my limit.
  • I had a limit of £25K on a Lloyds card a few years back.

And as an ex employee the highest limit I saw was a £12Million limit.

in my experience, MBNA followed by Barclaycard followed by RBS-stable. but, in order to achieve these i have merged various MBNA cards that i have applied for, and have merged Barclaycard limits when they have taken over other card providers, such as Morgan Stanley, Liverpool Victoria and Egg.
