Terraclean Diesel Treatment

Has anyone tried this before or have any knowledge of it?
A friend got his van done with 194k miles on it and he said it felt like it drove smoother after it as well as a bit more lost power being restored.
I've been quoted £90 for the treatment. Considering having it booked in after the EGR has been removed, but before the remap.

Not tried it but you'd need a pretty big improvement for the £90 to be worth it on purely financial grounds. I'd run a few tanks of BP Ultimate or possibly Shell V-Power Nitro+ instead myself if I wanted to give the engine a clean.0

There is a video on YouTube of this cleaning process in action on a Jag XK8 from Wheeler Dealers here:

Well, the hydrocarbon level in the exhaust gas did drop dramatically in the video. The guy also claimed the CO level had halved, but about 0.7 to 0.5 isn't really half by my maths...
Hardly an independent test though!0 -
I had this done on my car a year ago due to failing to pass the mot emissions. I was a bit skeptical but it did make a massive difference to the emissions readings (only for a couple of days though, but found out I had a dead o2 sensor). After the terraclean the car did feel more responsive and a little better fuel economy (the fuel economy could be down to anything though).
I would have it done again as I've seen a difference and think it was worthwhile for me. whether it would be any good for a diesel I have know idea.0 -

Agreed, its an absolute con. Plenty of info on other forums about this. Not worth it for the massive outlay.
Bit like Redex. All crap and people believe the hype.
An Italian tune up is free and probably works just as well!0 -
I have used Rhino, but not in my car.
It goes into the oil tank at home to keep the Rayburn running better.
Thanks to EU regulations, oil isn't as good as it used to be and if you need a clean delivery to the wicks, then it's either a case of de-coking the burner & pipes every 3-4 months or finding some other way of keeping them clean.
When you're spending £1500+ on oil a year, another £50 isn't a big deal, but it does make a difference, in my opinion.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
(Directed towards Netwizard)
A magazine had this done to an elderly X5 diesel and I believe a decent improvement was gained in emissions and exhaust smoke.
I think this is a fairly common process in mainland Europe, specifically Germany from what I have read.
An Italian tune up does little apart from clear out the exhaust on a town driven turbo diesel.
An though I firmly believe in using a car to capacity every so often
To say additives such as Redex or Wynns do nothing just shows lack of knowledge
I assume you also believe JLM Dpf cleaner does nothing and Wynns Dpf cleaner does nothing.
Tell that to the people I know who have didn't have to replace a troublesome Dpf after using it at every fill up for a month.
Did it to the Jag and no Dpf light since, touch wood, though I did change the filthy air filter at around the same time.0 -
Redex all crap?

Car Mechanics magazine also tested the Terraclean theory and saw a 10% bhp gain in before and after tests.0 -
Thats the one Westwood0
