Moved to Scottish Power

:(
Following a recommendation from your site, last month I moved from British Gas (monthly variable d/d) to Scottish Power (fixed rate until Oct.14 d/d).
The changeover went smoothly but then I got an email from Scottish Power saying they would immediately direct debit my bank account with £392 per month.
My last bill with British Gas was about £75 for September. I obviously expect to pay much more in winter (being all-electric with underfloor heating which is horrendous) and we will sadly achieve about £390 of usgae for a couple of months, but this amount is totally unrealistic as a fixed d/d every month until it is "reviewed".
What concerns me is how SP got this amount in the first place when they have only been given an opening reading so far and know that I live in a two-bedroom apartment.
After much waiting and listening to canned music, I eventually managed to speak to someone. The helpful lady agreed that £392pm "seemed a bit steep" and without much hesitation amended it to £200pm with an immediate refund of £200.
Another instance of the customer having to rectify an "error" (or was it?) by the big boys.
