Matched Tyres or Not?

Swerving implies last minute a manoeuvre, I'd suggest spending more effort trying to see obstacles earlier.
Try cycling in Edinburgh and you will see there are times when you are needing 3 sets of eyes to see whats around you
ever seen the smooth 'waves' buses create in tarmac?
Or have you never hit a pothole in a car?0 -

No, is it so much worse than any other city in the UK or the ones I've cycled in, including many 100s miles of central London?
If you're struggling to take in all the information, have you considered slowing down a little to give yourself time to process it?0 -

That's why I asked you the question, because I've never cycled in Edinburgh and I got the impression you were saying it was more dangerous than anywhere else.
So you're confirming Edinburgh is an especially dangerous place?0 -

Of course, not been flippant (or trying to be) but I really don't know where we are going with this.
Potholes, ridges and drain covers can cause different issues for different bikes, someone a chunky wheeled MTB will probably ride over everything with no issues whereas someone on a more road orientated bike with thin treadless tyres needs to take more care and possibly avoid these hazards.
To be fair answering your question yes I have, and sometimes I've had an issue. But I'm on thin tyres at high pressure, if I was on my MTB with its chunky tyres and suspension I wouldn't.0 -
But in the lead up to this I had had a few scary moments with my rear slipping on wet manhole covers and the like.
All tyres will slip on wet draincovers etc, as previously mentioned just ride straight over the middle of them and avoid the edges which can catch you out even when slightly damp as I found out the other day, luckily I stayed upright but moved off line slightly. It was a 'mare to remove/refit the Gatorskin, though strangely the Marathon Plus seemed far easier to fit and remove...Cheers.
It's all down to tyre and rim combo for easy tyre removal/refit. Some people say MP tyres are difficult to remove & refit.0
