Transfer photo albums from iPhone to PC

I'm trying to work out how to copy my photo albums from my iPhone4s onto my PC.
I know how to copy the whole camera roll, but I want to keep photos organised in albums as they are on my phone (and re-sorting them is a pain and shouldn't be necessary!)
There doesn't seem to be a way to do this without using additional software or an app. If that's the case, can anyone recommend anything?
