Switching Current Account Hassle - Debit Card

We're always being told how easy it is to switch current accounts so I decided to give it a go. Im trying to switch to Nationwides Flex Account but am encountering unforseen problems. I've had other accounts with Nationwide for many years but they will not give me a debit card, despite an immaculate financial history and substantial savings. That basically means the account is useless as I can't spend any money. I can't run a current account when I have to go and withdraw cash from the wall everytime I need to buy something.

I cannot believe I can't get a card which just allows me to spend the money I already have. I've been in to ask why but they just say I haven't qualified but won't say why. Has anyone else encountered this?

I never banked or saved with them but, did apply for a flex current account months ago but, was refused - offered a cashcard.

I've never had any refusal from any bank account (even credit cards) I've applied to in the past, lived at same address 14 years, perfect credit history ...etc but, still they refused me.

I wasn't impressed with the branch - it was dirty, the staff rushed and they were late with the appointment they made for me to apply.

    I got the cashcard ...

Tried the online and phone banking - they give you a long customer number - I could never remember it, can't be altered.

I cancelled within a month of getting the cashcard - it was pretty much useless :rotfl:

Not impressed. Worset experience of a bank I have had in my life
