Steps on redundancy questions?

Hi, on Wednesday in a meeting we were informed there would be redundancys before Christmas.No official letter as yet.
Is there a 30 day waiting period or if i recieve the letter in the next week will that be the begining of my one weeks notice start?
Iv been there 18 months and three of those were agency.
Iv looked and asked but cannot find a step by step.
