  • No I know I am ranting, but it all started because my daughter asked him to sign some paperwork from the mortgage company to reduce the interest rate. And contact the company's who have the other charges on the mortgage because they wont deal with her as its not her debt. She wanted to get things in order but unless she moves out he won't sign the paper work because he isn't gaining anything. As we are getting on a bit she wanted to start paying us the money back. So without costly legal fees he is holding a gun to our heads.

    You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • I don't think you need to be worrying about him accessing file, I think you need to be worrying about getting his name and charges off of the property or your Daughter stands to lose a lot of money if he really hasn't put anything money into the house.

    Since the happy' couple bought the house together, it is probable that the solicitor has a file in both names. In particular, it would be natural for the solicitor to show him a copy of a document that he himself has signed.

    Your daughter needs to tell the solicitor that they are no longer a couple, and so her file should not be shown to him.

    I'm a bit confused - what do you mean that he accessed your archived documents?

    Do you mean that you consulted a solicitor and the ex has been given access to your file?

    Or do you mean that the ex and your daughter have consulted a solicitor about their joint ownership and mortgage on the house, on which you have registered a charge, and the ex has been given access to that file which included documents that you signed?

    Or something else?

    If the ex still owns and is named on a mortgage on the house, its inevitable that he is entitled to know about any other charge on the house. In fact the charge should be registered at the land registry
