Who should you ask to mount your TV to the wall?

I'm looking for someone to mount my old LCD TV to the wall in my living room.
At first, I've tried to look for some professional companies. But it turned out that some of them received very negative reviews on the web.
So I don't know who to trust.
Is it ok to ask a handyman to do this job?
Thank you.

Local handyman if you want to pay someone. We did our own so not really sure. Do you have a friend or family member that has theirs on wall you can ask advice from?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Hi, it is good to know that you can do it yourself. On the webpages of some companies, they make it look like it is a very difficult job, so I'm anxious. And the price is not cheap. Apparently the cheapest quote is around £100, while a professional company, partnering with Currys, would charge more.
It seems that a handyman would be cheaper. I can only hope that they will do it well.0 -
We bought ours from currys I think and involved my husband using a spirit level to draw lines on wall then drill holes and used wall plugs. Once screwed to wall the tv fixed on it easy. I assisted but prob could do it myself if I had to but was better to have 2 people with a big tv. Is it going on a brick wall or a plasterboard one?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

i am a complete biff when it comes to DIY, but i managed to do it.
Get your TV size and buy a wall mounting bracket that fits (if you haven't already) and place the bracket where you want it (spirit level). Mark screw holes with pencil, drill, wall plugs (you can get heavy load ones from your local DIY store). Fit bracket, fit TV, check mount over next few weeks.
If you really think you cannot do it, then i would look at your local paper classifieds or ask a family member / neighbour? No way i would pay £100+!!0 -
Thank you so much. Mine is a plasterboard wall.
It is good to know that the job is not extremely difficult, although i will find a handyman to do it.
Thank you.0 -
Yeah I think a plasterboard wall is trickier as I think you have to use special plugs and maybe screws that are long enough to go into the brick. Good luck with itHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Plasterboard is trickier, I helped fit my son's, we used longer screws to get into the brickwork
if the plasterboard is part of an interior wall, with no bricks / masonry, just board nailed onto wood struts you would have to find the wood struts to screw into, which may not be the same position as you want the TV to be
You can get special plasterboard wall plugs, but weight of TV may be a problemGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Probem with a dry wall (plasterboard) is that it is fragile and will not support a heavy load.
There should be wooden beams inside it which will supprt, but they are not necessarily in the right place.
My DD wanted one on her wall (exactly here, Dad). I got lucky and was able to mount a batten to the wall and attach the bracket, which was hidden by the TV, to that.
You will also need to consider routing of power supply and aerial.0 -
As above, you may need to screw battens to the interior woodwork, then fix TV to the battensGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0

Probably the trickiest job is concealing all the cables.
I was lucky as I was having a major refurb done so I got the builder to sink some trunking into the wall and nothing shows. I imagine the best you can get without it being expensive is some surface mounted trunking.0
