Black mold on bedroom ceiling

My spare bedroom ceiling (north facing) is covered in black mold. It is only in this room and not in the other rooms. It only started growing since I had uPVC windows put in 6 years ago.

What is the best way to treat it and to stop it coming back?

Usually the door is left open a little bit. Only gets heated when I have the heating on.

    It is caused by condensation.

You need to leave the door open for the air to circulate at the very least.

It would pay you to get a dehumidifier. We have one and the running costs are between £1 to £1.50 a week.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I agree, a dehumidifier would be the best thing.

We have one for our spare room that has a similar problem and since we've used a dehumidifier it has really helped.

Our's costs around £2 a week to run.

Could you give us the make of the dehumidifiers and approx cost? Am looking for a decent one but they all seem quite expensive.

Amazon has a good selection and you can read people's comments on them.

You could also try Lakeland mould remover. I used it in my bathroom and the mould (not quite as bad as OP) on the ceiling disappeared and the grout came up sparkling white.

Also check the insulation above the ceiling.

We had one room like this and found that it wasn't insulated at all. The colder the surface the more likely condensation will form on it.

Do you have insulation in the roof?

You say the door is sometimes open, how regularly is the window left open?
