Advice please - cost of changing from electric heating and prepaid meter

Hello,
We are going for a viewing next week of a semi-detached two-bed house (two storey) and we are considering the work we would need to do. We are wondering approximately how much to budget for it. If you have any idea could you please give us some guidelines on the following:
1. Changing from electric storage heaters to central heating (we would consider different options eg gas/oil) for a two bed house.
2. Changing from pre-paid electic meters to electricity bills.
Thank you in advance for your advice!
(Location of house is in a town in South Lincolnshire, in case this is necessary)

ps the reason I know there are pre-paid meters is that the EA rang back to rearrange the viewing due to the first appointment not being in bright daylight and the meter has run out!
This is worrying as: Can the electricity be checked to see if it works if it is turned off? I'd like to know before buying whether there's a good chance of needing to budget for a full rewire of the house as well as installing central heating!0 -
The meter doesn't cost anything to change. EDF normally do it for free.
Is there a gas supply to the house? If not, this could cost thousands of pounds on its own. If you have a gas supply, allow £3k to £6k for central heatingEat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Thanks for the response. From looking at all of the houses in the estate that have sold since 2001, it appears that they all have electric heaters so I'm guessing there is no gas supply? There are other residential streets adjacent though.
Does anyone know the costs - installation and ongoing- of oil central heating in England? Where i come from oil is the norm.
Phil, does your range of pricing reflect house size?0 -
I'm now considering a boiler stove which would heat the radiators and the water. Seems to be about 2000 for the stove with back boiler.
Does anyone know if we would need planning permission to have a stove with the chimney flue going out the external wall at the side of the house?0
