Tesco Direct Problem order changed after purchase, different item received

Options
Hiya newbie but just looking for some advice regarding a Tesco Direct problem.

The other day I ordered a TV through Tesco Direct, at the point I ordered the website said I was buying a 46” Samsung and I also got an email confirming this. Today I received a 32” Samsung and a completely different model to top it off

I checked my account and found that the 46” I thought I ordered had been changed to the 32” I received. It also seems the price I paid was for the 32” and not the 46” The 46” is around £200 more. These all changed after I made the purchase.

I’m still waiting for Tesco to get back to me but what can I expect?

I’d quite like the item I thought I was purchasing, granted it’s more expensive are Tesco obliged to supply me with what I ordered at the price I paid? Their T&C’s are a little vague, they say they have the right to cancel if they make a mistake provided it’s before they dispatch an item. There are a few other people complaining about this on Tesco’s facebook page.

Any advice would be appreciated xx

Do you have any proof of what you think you ordered? An order confirmation email or something? Because, quite frankly, without any proof to the contrary, then you've got no real leg to stand on, but if you do have proof you're in an extremely strong position.
  • You need some sort of proof you paid for a 46" TV as at the moment it just looks like you've made an error. An email? Screenshot? Google cache?

Even so I think it will be goodwill as they could just refund you for the TV. I don't think their obliged to give you the 46" tv for the 32" price

The OP says they had an email confirming this. You should really read what is posted.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Well the OP did say in their original post:
...at the point I ordered the website said I was buying a 46” Samsung and I also got an email confirming this.

OP, armed with your confirmation email, I am sure you will be able to get the 46" tv from them.

Unfortunately I am equally sure you will have to pay the price for the 46" model.

Do make sure TescoDirect cover all the costs of swapping the televisions though, and maybe you can ask for a giftcard for the inconvenience.
  • Hiii thanks for all the input

You know, at first I thought that I had made a mistake but all my emails state I bought a 46” TV. I also have a print out of the webpage showing the offer as well as my order confirmation.

It wasn’t massively reduced when I bought it either, it was exactly £170 cheaper after I used a £20 discount code than its normal price so I roughly paid £500 for a £700 TV – same TV can now be bought on Amazon for £630ish lol

I’m waiting for a call back on Monday, apparently normal customer services can’t deal with it and a manager is supposed to be calling me. I might hit lucky and they might do the right thing and honour the deal but I doubt it lol

It’s just very annoying this wasn’t spotted before they dispatched orders, they corrected details after people had made purchases so they would have known people were mislead into buying the wrong items.

From what I’ve found out this was going on all through Wednesday and affected their whole TV range, lots of people ranting on Facebook and HUKD about it, most orders were cancelled but a few went through.
  • Yes op missed that vital bit of info out of her op. It wasn't a one off accident, it was a well publicised glitch which once posted in HUKD will have people taking the proverbial.

It wasn’t a well publicised glitch, all the chat regarding problem has been on Tesco deals posted AFTER this happened. I hardly call it a vital piece of information, I found the deal myself, HUKD wasn’t involved and its not like it was an obvious misprice.

Given the high number of people that found the error prices, I find it difficult to believe it was not publicised somewhere. Of course, you could be the exception to the rule ... Right place, right time?
  • Well it might have been well publicised somewhere else but it defiantly wasn’t hukd for a change.

I was just browsing looking for a new TV, like I said it wasn’t an obvious misprice or massivly reduced when i ordered, its not like i paid £50 for a £1000 TV.

But hey ho, thanks for the input ;)
