Temperamental light fitting

I have an Ikea ceiling light in my kitchen, installed over 12 years ago that has worked well to date. In the last week it's played up a bit, cutting out intermittently. I really like the light, and I'd rather not change it. What could be wrong with it? Is it likely that the connection may have loosened after all this time? TIA

possibly, or the bulb holders are a bit old and making bad connections with the bulbs. Is it all the lights that go out or just one or two.
The other thing could be over heating transformer - its a bit of kit that sits in the black cup on the ceiling.
If you felt confident you could switch off the lighting circuit at the consumer unit and check the connections. However, 12 years is pretty good going for a transformer light - might be time to get a new one?
Edit - problem might also be loose switch connection, so when you turn of the circuit you could check in there too0 -
^^^^ Thank you. It's all of them, so I guess it might be time to change the light. It's been ok this week so I shall be OS and wait for it to die completely before I replace it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
