Quote me happy - renewal problem
Hi . I took out a motor policy with these in November 2011 and have just received an auto renewal email some two years later which I have cancelled as I have taken out a policy with a different company . The problem I have is this policy was cancelled after year 1 because again I found a better quote elsewhere . After investigating it appears that after I cancelled after year one they still took £260 odd pounds from my account which has only just come to light . I am rather upset as you can imagine as there has been no correspondence since intitally taking out the policy in 2011 and I had a policy running at exactly the same time on the same vehicle from another insurer . I have emailed them to explain all this but would like to know what the next step would be to recover the money if they won't play ball , thanks .

What proof do you have that you cancelled?0

No proof ! It was done online and the fact that there was no correspondence and no policy documents issued since Nov 2011 on the original policy would to me be proof enough .0

It is unusual that you didn't receive a letter following the first auto-renewel. I assume you haven't changed address?
I've no idea if you have a case for a refund. I'm sure the auto-renewel will have been part of the initial contract that you agreed. Did you phone to tell tell them you didn't want to renew the policy? If so if you phone them again you might find they have a record of this phone call and will acknowledge the mistake. I'd at least phone to ask to see...
It's too late here but this is obviously an example of why it is worth checking all of your bank statements when you receive them.0 -

This isn't any form of proof unfortunately. QMH may have posted the documents and they then got lost in the post. They would have no way of knowing if this happened without you contacting them to query the lack of documentation. From their point of view all was in order, including the fact that you didn't challenge the payment taken from your bank/credit card.
Hopefully QMH will be helpful when you contact them though.0 -
Thankyou . I would not query a lack of documentation as I was not expecting any as I had cancelled the policy . All documentation is sent via email so it could not be lost as it is the same address that they sent the auto renewal to . I totally agree about checking bank statements - a major error on my part . You cannot phone this company as everything is done online only , so that is how the policy was cancelled . NO email or policy was sent by them after the initial policy was taken out in 2011 which I find strange and when I log into my account online all it shows is start date of policy in 2011 and nothing more . Thanks for your help .0
