Aviva Insurance Help!

Hi,

I have recently taken out a policy with Aviva. I have 3 years no claims and stated this when purchasing the policy. They then sent me a letter in the post 2 months after the start of the policy asking for proof of the no claims within 14 days which was fine as I could obtain the certificates to send off. However after thoroughly reading the letter it states that no claims can only be accepted if they are not in use on another vehicle. I also have a motability car in which these no claims I assume are being used. So I phoned up to ask what was to be done about this to be told they are going to double my premium because they wont accept the no claims discount. I asked them where this was stated and they said it was clearly highlighted on the no claims section online where I purchased the policy from, after going back and looking at this I found this is only stated if you click on the little help button next to the field, I never thought to click this as I did not need help because I knew how many years no claims I had. Surely this isn't right? Can anyone offer any advice or solutions for this?

Thanks,
Bev

Unless you have had 2 policies on the go each earning no claims then you can only use a no claims discount on one policy.
You will need to start your second policy with zero no claims and work up from there

One policy for one set of no claims.

For the 2 cars you require 2 policies. Which it appears you do not have.

Its going to be expensive. You may wish to cancel and start afresh elsewhere. Whatever you do you do not want them to cancel the policy.

Are you are referring to having "no claims bonus" (rather than 3 years without making a claim)?

Motability don't usually use no claims bonus, or give any.

So check your motability policy, and if you find no NCB is involved, then you don't have any to use on this new policy.

Expect to have to pay the correct premium to Aviva (back dated to the policy start date) even if you now want to cancel.

Also if you find a cheaper policy elsewhere with nil NCB, check the full cost of cancelling with Aviva first, as you need to factor in the expense of cancelling against any savings made by switching, plus you won't get any no claims discount for the part year you have been with Aviva.
  • Since you are already with Aviva, you could ask them to quote for a multi car policy where both vehicles are insured under the one policy. Your NCD would then cover both vehicles, which will certainly be a lot cheaper than 2 separate policies.

    Hope this helps
