Night safety light flickering

I have a low wattage safety light which simply plugs into any wall socket similar to:

... except that mine is non-LED...

I have noticed that, whilst it is supposed to give out a low level, steady glow, it actually flickers when anyone moves within a foot or so of it.

Do I have to assume that this 'safety light' is itself unsafe..?

  • Its probably the sensor deciding whether it should be on or off as the light level changes as you pass by

Normal behaviour in my experience !

As far as I'm aware this has no sensor and stays on as long as the socket is live.

Could it be something to do with the power supply to the light - maybe as someone walks closer on a wooden floor, their weight affects a slightly loose connection somewhere in the wiring to the socket.

The first step is to get another light and plug it into the socket, and see if you have the same result? Then move the nightlight to another socket, and again, test it out.

Switch it on in daylight - dies it light up? I'll hazard a guess that it doesn't.

Most of them are designed to be left switched on all the time, but they only light up when it gets dark.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?

According to the product description in the link you supplied:

"This triple pack of night lights has excellent modern technology which allows them to automatically light up when your room darkens, and turn off when the room is bright. Automatically illuminates when your room darkens, and turns off when the room is bright."

Difficult to see how it could do all this without a light sensor.
