Does your energy supplier HAVE to inform you of any Rates/Deals that become available on your tarrif or is the onus on yourself to keep an eye out for changes/new products?

I am an "ALL ELECTRIC" Consumer so have limited choices as my meter configuration is only supported by the one supplier.

  • I,m also all electric but am free to move to anyone, I,m on economy 7 just switched to npower, 2017 deal.

personally I would do your own comparisons shortly before your deal is up.and see if there any better deals for you

    Thanks NittyGritty,
I thought perhaps there was something that if there are products which they release for particular tariffs that they might have to inform consumers....."Our new tariff may be of interest to you?" that kind of thing??
Read somewhere that Ofgem(Guardian.com.....energy firms forced to tell customers of cheapest tariff.....dated Oct 2012) had been looking into this being implemented.
I do all my stuff online so keep up to date on new deals anyway...but after phoning SP about going from standard to a fixed deal they let me know about a deal (which had prices effective from 26th August 2013) which is not advertised on their website and TBH if I hadn't got the operator I did on that particular day I believe I wouldn't have known about!! As I had been on phone to them previously, 1 week earlier, and was told only standard(which I was on) and Fixed energy Deal which worked out more expensive (even after the immenent price rises) were all that were available to me.
I just thought they had to inform consumers of ALL options available to them......clearly in my case this isn't the case IYKWIM.

No, your supplier has no such obligation at present. That's what the comp sites are for.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Comp sites don't support my meter configuration ScottishPower Comfort Plus. But thanks for taking time to read/reply .
