I've never eaten set blancmange, my mum always cooked it till thick like custard then into a bowl with grated shortbread on top.
Anyone else had it like this?

My paternal grandmother only ever bought the white blancmange because she thought that was the original one. As she didn't understand what my father's high cholesterol meant, she made the white blancmange without sugar so it was doubly vile.
I don't remember it being set, because it was always served on top of tinned mandarin oranges. Haven't had either since
Looking back I don't think she could actually cook. We only ever had salad plus tinned fruit with blancmange, every other Sunday if not abroad travelling.
Thanks for the food nightmare CharlieRabbit010 -

Set and cold. Or warm, thick like custard, with ice cream! DELICIOUS. Making me want blancmange now!0

we have it in a trifle instead of custard, so sponge fingers, jelly, blancmange, then dream topping (or double cream whipped up with icing sugar) yum yum xOne day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

I always make it set. I have never heard of eating it like custard, do you just make it the same and eat hot before it sets? I will have to try that I bet its nice.0

With ice cream sounds yummy!
Erm I don't know what milk jelly is but I do know that set and cold is how you are 'meant' to have blancmange!0 -
