Help with gaming PC

Hi,

My son is about to spend his money on a gaming PC ( oh and some of mine! ) . He assures me he has done his research but to be honest I have no idea. Could anyone let me know what they think of this PC/spec.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/VIBOX-Warrior-Multimedia-78LMT-USB3-Motherboard/dp/B007PBHLHM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1384543848&sr=8-2&keywords=Vibox+4+core+gaming+PC

Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. :)

first things first is that the system you linked does NOT include windows so this will need to be purchased separately at ~£80

anyways i would probably be looking more at this http://www.fiercepc.co.uk/mid-range-gaming-pcs/doom-intel-gaming-pc/#customise

the i5 4430 processor will pee all over the fx4300

the gtx760 is far superior to the amd 7850

8gb of ram is the current sweet spot for games and in most tests you will see NO difference between 8gb and 16gb of ram, however the speed of the ram will make a impack so 8gb at 1600mhz will be faster in games than 16gb of 1333mhz ram

hard drive - base spec is 1tb not 2tb as in the amazon system, but its only a £15 upgrade and still makes the system cheaper

BUT this system also does not come with windows pre installed - although it is a option for £65
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • I was typing a reply, but gonzo127 has pretty much covered everything!
Agreed. You can get more powerful systems for the money and the Intel i5 is a better CPU for gaming.
  • Tumbletots, after adding the £80 for windows it takes you to £720, for which you can get http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/-b-NEW-b-Gigadon-4670K-94p1724.htm

Have just got for my son, and have to say it is a beast. He is currently playing COD BO2 at full settings with no problems.

    Great machine

Jim (BTW, there is a code in PC advisor magazine for £10 off and free 5 day delivery, if you decide its right for you PM me and i'll message it to you.)
Copy from one, it’s plagiarism; copy from two, it’s research.

The Vibox Warrior, really is the highest spec PC from top to bottom, perfect for any serious gamer that's looking to combine the latest, super fast, Quad-Core, CPU, loads of gaming RAM, a large hard drive and one of the most powerful dedicated graphics card on the market enabling you to dominate all the latest video games on the market on their maximum quality settings.
What a crock of rubbish - it uses a bottom of the range motherboard, a relatively poor processor that is over a year old, and a graphics card that is over 18 months old - hardly "highest spec" or "super fast" - I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, certainly not at £665!!

You can get a higher spec machine for equivalent money if you shop around, as gonzo127 (and james123) have pointed out.
  • Hi,

Thanks everyone for all the useful information. Back to the drawing board for him! :)
