I'm also in a similar dilemma. Want to get a tablet for hubby for xmas. Was all set to get hudl, but am now debating samsung galaxy 2.
He's not massively tech savvy, and tbh hasn't actually asked for a tablet. But he currently carries netbook each day so he can log on and do his emails in between his split shift. He commutes for about 40mins on the train each way so thought a tablet would be nice as he could also use on a busy train (something he can't do with notebook) as well as check his emails/browse internet during his break. He doesn't actually send a lot of emails/type much (mainly just short messages) so think a 7" would be fine.
I don't know much about technology at all - but is the hudl generally considered to be the best at that price range?
Thanks!
Alternative to Hudl would be Asus Memopad HD7.
HD7 with IPS screen, but lower resolution & no micro hdmi out
Nexus 7 (2012) is another one, if you don't mind no rear camera/ micro sd.
However, if he need to access to internet on train, he probably need to get something with 3G. or tenthering to the phone.0 -
I have also been looking at tablets for myself and partner. Was looking to get the Tesco Hudl but argos and tesco both currently have the samsung tab 3 for £139, so thinking of getting that. Just thought I'd share as thought it was good price2014 Alphabet Challenge

go with the Samsung tab 3, I think it is worth the extra £20. Not sure how robust the Hudl will be.0

If not in a wi-fi location, do I need a dongle to use the internet?
If so, is there a payg dongle?0 -
Do I need 3G to use wi-fi?
No. 3G is using a mobile network. Wi-Fi is wireless by connecting to a Wireless Hotspot. If out and about, you'd need 3G or 4G.
If not in a Wifi location, and if your tablet doesn't have built-in 3G, then yes, you would need a MiFI which is basically a dongle but acts as a WiFi hotspot. If so, is there a payg dongle?0
