Unhide A Private Number?

I set the phone a long time ago to show 'private number' when a call is made. Unfortunately, I've met a new lady that has calls barred from phones that hide their number. I've been told there is a code (number) I can dial before calling her to allow me to get through to her.
Is this true? If it is, does anyone know the number?
Big thanks to anyone that can help me out here (she's a lovely lady). I have a BT landline if this makes any difference.

How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Tell her the problem and get her to ring you - it'll work out cheaper.
But if that falls on deaf ears, then the number to use as a prefix when dialling is 1470.0 -
Hi Rex.
It is called ACR (Anonymous Call Rejection). It can be a problem for the customer who has ACR enabled as it is not always possible when someone calls them to transmit Caller ID (even by using 1470).
Calls from International numbers may not transmit Caller ID, nor may third party agents (e,g. Finarea) in all cases. The Police, hospital, fire service may not be able to reach numbers which have ACR on the line.
All-in-all ACR is probably best avoided unless you have a lot of crank calls!0 -
1470 to send your CLID on lines where it's auto withheld.
ACR isn't usually a problem with International as the number is transmitted just that cable and BT mask this number as 'International' and get through ACR OK.
Some Police, Fire, Ambulance etc may have problems, but again in West Midlands not a problem as they don't use withheld numbers, they either transmit a number or don't transmit at all (unavailable). Drs Surgeries, Social Services, Councils may withhold their number. Though our Drs don't withhold, Social Services do as a lot work from home and move from office to office.
It's only very occasionally that the Finarea services send the call withheld, often it's either 'International' or they send the number fine.
It is BT and cable that mask International numbers, if you use VoIP or a Mobile they will display the International number fine.
It's only withheld numbers ACR prevents not International or unavailable. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
As ever, BexTech, your explanations are flawless!
As for the Police I think it depends on where the Police ring from. Yes, UNAVAILABLE numbers will get through even when CLI is withheld, but smaller Police Stations may still use WITHHELD (rather than UNAVAILABLE).
Thanks for correcting me on the INTERNATIONAL situation, it seems I got this wrong!
I think some phone cards may use UNAVAILABLE CLI (rather than WITHHOLD or passing on CLI) and that can mean people still get crank calls (which ACR is designed to prevent).0 -
You can incidentally call the operator on 100 and be put through instead (Virgin Media don't charge extra for this although BT may well). As a Virgin Media operator I know lots of companies (mainly debt collectors
) get through this way.
