I have found a new car that I want - Merc A class Avantgarde & want to take advantage of their current offer (runs out end of month) that gives contract purchase finance for 5.8% APR. Have been in to try to get money off as I am a moneysaver! However Im not getting much luck really. The 'business manager' who deals with the figures is not really letting the price go down at all, pretty much staying at cost. The car Ive seen has a few bells & whistles that will be good, but never particularly wanted them ie.sunroof, sports pack & he wont reduce it.
I have tried to find a more basic car counrywide in colour I want but cant really find one (tried another dealer in another county) so worried that the availabilty of the car & ability to get the contract offer may time me out.
In your experience how do you get a new car with a better deal?
Thanks in anticipation

  • Bear in mind the dealer usually has to fund a low apr offer out of his margin, so you can't beat them down on new car price and still ask them to help you fund a low apr on top...the deal has to break somewhere!

We have a Mercedes dealer in with us at a meeting this afternoon so I'll ask the question for you and report back if I can find a way through it for you..what's the best discount you've had so far in addition to getting the low apr?

car is around 18k, deposit 2.5k, Merc Benz puts in additional 550 contribution.
I pay £250 for 36mths, balloon at the end, cant remember balloon payment/guaranteed residual.
His best deal was to put another £160 to the deposit to make sure it gets to 250 monthly.
    Thank you

    Have you tried these?:

(Buying this way, most manufacturers' offers would still be available to you).

I would personally say don't buy a car if you can't pay for it up front, but of course it's up to individual choice. I personally won't go for a car unless I can pay the lot up front as there's little point paying for new, and paying interest on top for the privelige of getting something you can't afford when there are some great cheap cars out there.

Take for example this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKODA-FAVORIT-1-3-LXI-5-DOOR-HATCHBACK_W0QQitemZ180131105056QQihZ008QQcategoryZ100919QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem 22k miles, ok it is 14 years old but the pictures show an immaculate interior and bodywork. No doubt it's been used to go to the local supermarket weekly by an elderly person. Buy it now price is just under £500 and bidding starts at £100 no reserve and no bids. I am in fact extremely tempted myself as my existing car is the same as this but has done much more mileage. I would have probably bought it now if my car was absolutely on it's last legs.

You can't tell me you're not impressed with how immaculate that car is for £500! I'm certainly impressed. A full 12 months MOT too. Unbelievable. I think I'll stick with what I have for now and hope another bargain like this comes up when I want it to as I only recently got my MOT and road tax.

Have you considered leasing instead? It may or may not suit you but no harm in looking. Take a look at www.contracthireandleasing.com and see whats there. Just as an example, I just found an A150 on a 3 year lease for £149+vat per month. No balloon payments etc etc.
