can someone help me make sense of this from Npower?

Am trying to work out if they have overcharged me as we were billed £70.47 after our account was closed and on the statement I requested from them via email, it shows as a CR and a DR.

I cannot make head nor tail of this thing.

AM I in credit with them or not?

help please, below is the email copied/pasted exactly as it was sent.
they have been no help by phone or email as to explaining this clearly

Payment £42.00cr means you have paid them £42.
    £290.22cr current account balance

13 February 2007 Estimated Account £348.76dr gas used - charge debited from account
    59575 £58.54dr account balance

It is the same as a bank statement - every month you pay them so much, crediting your account, then once a quarter gas used is debited from the account
  • So basically I owe them nothing more and they now owe me nothing more either?
Just getting this straight as my dad is sure they've over charged us on that last payment of £70.47 considering when the account was closed I find it hard to believe we used this much electricity!

Mr Ellison, trust this is what you were looking for.

From what I can see, you were billed each month around the 15th, the payment for which were paid on the 1st. To explain, on 22 March you would have been billed upto that date, the payment was made on 2nd April, the payment wasn't enough to completely clear so the remaining balance owed by you was £23.09. On 19 April, you closed the account, but you would have owed money for the usage period 22 March-19 April (instead of getting the bill in April, you got it on 4 May, at which time you were £29.91 in credit. After the final bill had been issued (mar-apr usage), you were left owing them £70.47, which you paid. Therefore, I cannot see where you were overcharged. You parents are probably confused because they received the bill after the account was closed, but the bill was (I assume) for the period before you closed the account.

    Hope that helps.

They have charged you correctly, although the final bill seems a little high. Did you give your new supplier a meter reading on the day the changeover went through?

22 March 2007 *Amended Account £59.55dr Charge for gas used since last bill
60048 £76.09dr account balance (you owe them)
    2 April 2007 Payment £53.00cr payment received
    £23.09dr account balance
    19 April 2007 Account Closed
    1 May 2007 Payment £53.00cr payment received
    £29.91cr account balance
4 May 2007 Final Account £100.38dr Charge for gas used since last bill
60859 £70.47dr account balance (you owe them)
    18 May 2007 Payment £70.47cr payment received
    £0.00 account balance
  • Its only for electricity not gas.
I thought it was too high too.

Anyways we gave the meter reading to Atlantic on the day of switchover and they gave it to Npower.
