Not bitter or twisted and why would I be? I have no agend on here, only give advice and say things as I see it.
How much do you add to low cost airline fare for your customers?
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel
  • I go out for lunch and come back to find this thread has grown.

As Chris as stated I am not a friend just a happy customer.

Why people feel the need to flame in this way and bring up irrelevant issues beats me.

Chris as far as I see has done nothing wrong in terms of saving money.

He got me a very good price for my holiday. He saved me money. He gave me a lot of good advice. He found out prices for me with no obligation. He also told me other ways in which I could have the same holiday and the prod and cons etc.

He makes no secret of the fact that he is an agent. At the end of the dau though we live in the real world and he needs to make money to put food on his table so yes he must make money from bookings otherwise he would be some sort of holiday charity ha ha.

I paid considerably less for the same holiday as people staying at same hotel as me. We also paid less for our taxi and had a brilliant smooth private
    transfer!

Regarding holiday forums such as ones like holiday truths, there are lots of things I have heard and been told about them by holiday makers and people in the travel industry - not every thing you see and read is the truth. Forums such as those can be manipulated to the benefit of the hotels / holiday companies etc. If a Hotel X got a load of reviews saying, bad food, rude staff, dirty rooms etc. how easy woudl it be for someone to come along and post saying wonderful, great food, glorious staff etc. or for someone to post slagging off hotels.

Regarding bannings etc. I don;t see how this is any of our business.

People have brains and can decide for themselves where and how to book a holiday. DIY is not for everyone and I am happy to pay 30pound here or there to have benefits of someone else's time experience and skill.

There are lots of things in life that you can go down DIY route and times when we chose to pay for someone else's skill. I never intend to do any of my own bathroom plumbing or fix my car.

Anyway this has all gone of topic and I only posted here to say thanks to Chris (but am quite happy to see this thread go as I have thanked Chris by email too) so do not really care about people questioning my 'motive' or identity.

  • Depends-sometimes nothing at all!! Very much depends on how we get the accommodation.

As a rule of thumb if the flights over £99 will ad £10 pp, under £5 pp. As you'll know from speaking to Cheryl (for the benefit of other posters an Agent who works for the same company & a friend of savapennys) cetain divisions of Co-Op get 'tactical' discounts on the accommodation, making it cheaper than it would be for the general public on the internet-hence cancelling out the £5/£10 fee.

There are a couple of companies that are 'bed brokers' if you like, who supply the likes of medhotels.com, somewhere2stay, etc.. now they only deal with ATOL Agents. As a broad example these brokers on the web mark up ny 25%, 10% for them & 15% to pay the Agents commission. By getting in at the bottom & just adding 10% on (we have to eat!) it's still cheaper & the customer has the benefit of full ATOL protection.

On the transfers...if the taxi companies on our books are too dear I simply point people to other sites on the web that are cheaper, an example being
http://www.shuttledirect.com/en/php/conditionsCarriage.php who are MUCH cheaper than the ones on our books for certain areas-IBIZA especially.

Have you looked at https://www.shuttletransfers.com ? AT LAST a cheap return shuttle transfer for Alcudia (cab being very dear), around £23 pp return? So for up to 3 people MUCH cheaper than a taxi.

    hi
can we stop the fighting ? who has the right to say what is right or wrong
I use to work for thomsons and regarding holiday truths and other web sites
do you know they are run by operators i.e thomsons and the yt's had to write
reviews to slag of airtours holidays, very underhand but that's what goes on.
I am not going to back chris up but do work for the same company I will
say it takes years to be a travel agent learn the job etc.
Regarding doing it yourself ? look at what has just happened in cancun
just think if you had done your own package who would have helped
get you home? this is what the atol charge is for.
I will say no more but can we calm down please

All I can say is its been a very interesting debate.
Almond HT was never run by Thomsons or any other Tour Op or any agent.
Its a well run site with no agenda but to provide the truth.
I suppose as with all sites you would get agents, reps and others in the trade posting but where it was found out the posted were always deleted.
Yes Cheryl is my friend and have picked up many tips from her over the many many years I have been traveling (not always booked with her).
Chris you seem to think I have a problem with you ...I dont ...I personaly wouldnt book with you but thats is down to personal choice.
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel
  • Savapenny-did you check out those links?

No-not got a problem with anyone...but the way I mark up flights (£30??!) & sell overpriced taxi transfers simply was not true-honest-I don't work like that!

Please PM me re what sloppychops said re HT forum-honestly can't remember but then I am nearly 40...(3rd April....OH NO!)..
