hi guys
this is a long story so please bear with me. back in march 13 my engine management light came on 4 days before my wedding so had a mobile mechanic out who said it needed a full service so he did a full service, since the full service when I first start driving the car going to work for the first couple of miles it felt like someone was applying the brakes but then it stopped and was fine. I had its Mot done and mentioned this to the mechanic who couldn't find the problem as it didn't do it when he had the car, other than that the car is perfect he is a dream to drive and I love my little corsa, but 2 weeks ago I went to work he drove lovely I did my 12 hour shift came out and he refused to start (no engine management light on) every time I thought he was going to start I let go of the key and he cut out I tried and tried but just flattened the battery. My husband came and we tried to jump start the car still wouldn't work, so got a mechanic out who did a diagnostic check on it and he said it wasn't preparing a report so it was the EGR valve he also said I needed a new battery the EGR valve was going to cost £131.00 so I agreed as I need my car. He got the EGR valve and replaced the battery he also changed the fuel filter and said he couldn't change the EGR valve coz of the bolts and needing a special tool to do it but the car still wouldn't start so he was told to leave it. I then had another mechanic come out to it who blanked off the EGR valve and it still wouldn't start please please please has anybody got any ideas as my car is stuck at work and my boss is getting a bit funny about it being there I need my car back working and hoping to do it myself now

If these people do not even own a set of torx sockets, then they are NOT mechanics and I would stay well away from them in future.
When the EML comes on, the last thing it needs is a service, it needs the fault diagnosing and fixing.
Sounds like you have found the local village idiot posing as a mechanic.
The other mistake is you are carrying forward this idiots words and suggestions to other mechanics and now have a blanked off EGR and car that will fail it's MOT.
STOP, DROP what this fool has said, get the EGR re-fitted, they only need to be cleaned and start with a blank sheet and no suggestions what some bloke said was wrong to the mechanic.
Does this car have a DPF fitted and could it be the DPF light that came on ?
If not, has this idiot removed the bulb from the EML light ?Be happy...;)0 -
agree with spacey2012, whoever these people are touching your vehicle are cowboys. if you don't have basic tools like torx sockets then they won't be fixing many vehicles.
do you know anyone who uses local garages that come highly recommended?
next time a customer comes into my place with a EML problem, first thing to say is its needs a full service just like the first person who touched your car.0 -
thanx guys
the second mechanic he blanked off the EGR valve to see if it would start but he did put it back for me hes a good guy and I know him and know hes ok but he works 6 days a week at donington race track and came over after work which means it was dark and very late he had to put the fuel filter on properly coz the first one had left pipes loose it was getting late so he had to go but I need to get the car sorted im new to the village and its 70 miles from home (where I used to live) where I know plenty of mechanics that could sort it but it wont start so i can get it to them thanx any way guys im getting my insurance people to tow it back to my house so I can have a play with it to see if I can fix it im going to get a Haynes manual to see if that helps :eek:0 -
