Calling Home from Spain

Advice please

I'm off to Menorca in a couple of weeks for a well earned break.

What's the cheapest way to phone home?

Probably from a phone box. Are you taking a mobile?

Probably the cheapest way to phone home is that before you go away give your home contact person/persons one of these telephone numbers to use to call Spain for only 01p a minute. Information here: http://niftylist.co.uk/country_200.html.

Then, overseas, many telephone boxes have a telephone number, phone your UK contact using a cheap card or cash, get your contact to phone you back on the telephone boxes number. It will only cost them 01p minute.
It's the cheapest way I know of phoning home from overseas and I do it all the time on my trips to France, Spain, USA.

10 minutes for 1 euro from public phone box (make sure you use a Telephonica box)

Top tip about dialabroad, but at 4 cents a minute wouldn`t you get 25mins for a euro and not ten?
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
  • bestyman,
    there's a connection charge also, then cents/minute.
...and then the window licker said to me...

I just gave an "average" time for one euro, depending on time of day and weekends, all details on the link.
There is a connection charge of 17 cents and if you don`t get an answer from whom you are calling, you lose your money.
Minimum to put into a call box is 40 cents, and as I said before,it`s vital to use a Telephonica box.
A lot of boxes in Spain are private and will rip you off.

Still a good deal though .
My sister who half lives in Spain says to use SALUDOS phone cards from telephone box. She reckons for 6 euros you get "about 3 hours" to the UK . This is a guesstimate , sorry cannot be more accurate.

As you can see from my signature, I'm a big DialAbroad Spain fan.

My experience with phonecards is bad; hidden charges and poor quality seem to be a feature of every card I've tried. And the credit seems to run out long before it should. Buyer beware!

One poster has already mentioned it, but with DialAbroad Spain, you need to make sure you are getting a good value phonebox. Spain is semi-lawless when it comes to telecoms regulation and phoneboxes will charge you different rates depending on who owns them and where they are located. I experienced a rate of under 10 eurocents/min on a Telefonica payphone in a backstreet and 18 eurocents/min on a Telefonica payphone on the beachfront!! It seems OFCOM aren't the only hopeless regulator.

I also requested some wallet-sized cards from their site for my wallet to ensure I didn't forget the number and destinations I could call...

    Car.
