You seem to be putting yourself to an awful lot of trouble to avoid a pretty minor annoyance. After I took the 8.1 upgrade the other day it seemed to have stopped classicshell from working. In fact I thought that MS had disabled it. I tried to reinstall it and was offered the option to repair the installation which I took. It's all back working again just fine and I virtually never see the hated start screen.

Modernmix seems to not be working properly for me as the store keeps appearing and the window is corrupted. I may just uninstall it as I virtually never use any of the apps anyway.

Your statement doesn't appear to make any sense.

This is a board for the exchange of Technical advice. Whilst the OP is tremendously annoying, my comments would be unhelpful if not for the addition of the appropriate advice.
I'm not sure what the rest of your post has to do with OEM versions of Windows 8, but hey ho.... at least if anyone else suffers from the Classic Shell issue they will know what to do.

My point is he wants to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 apparently just because he dislikes the Start screen. He has installed Classicshell in the past and stuck with it but since moving to 8.1 has been annoyed enough to want to downgrade. It may not be necessary.

A lot of the OP's problems stem from the fact that he tells us that he is an IT Tech... and then he blames everything but his lack of knowledge when something doesn't in the way he would like.. There is more, but in the end we are here to help. :)
He also doesn't need to sign into a Microsoft account to log in, he can use the Local account option.

Everything that he wants to do is 'do-able'. It is only him standing in the way that prevents it from happening.

Fair enough. I don't know the history, I just know that my 8.1 upgrade looked like it had forced me into the Win 8 newness and in fact it hadn't and was easy to fix. I'll look at the local login option myself - i though the new one was mandatory. I also need to see why the damned store keeps popping up - all in good time though as I've other more important stuff to do.

    Thanks.

Remaining off-topic I found this on the store popup...
Re: Unwanted Windows "Store" pop-up in Win 8.1
In the charms bar, click "Settings" . "Change PC Settings". Select "Search and Apps"- Notifications, and, if you scroll down, you will see the option to turn off store notifications

I've turned off notifications from all apps. MS should hang their head in shame - who on earth wants the full screen store app popping up and interrupting what you are doing.

I should apologise, as I took it that your earlier comments were aimed at me, when they were not.

MS should hang their head in shame.

I let the £14.99 promotion price of Windows 8 Pro lapse as I simply couldn't be bothered to test their new OS for them at my cost.

Perhaps I'll try it in a year or two.

I've only got it because I wanted a new laptop. It's not as bad as Vista as there are ways to bypass Microsoft's intended pushing of their dead in the water mobile offering into everybodies faces.

I do have a backup option - a Win 7 which I bought because Vista was so dire - I uninstalled it before passing that laptop on so could use it on this one. I probably won't though as classicshell works well enough for me.
