I haven't dismissed any advice. I've read it all, including the essays in the stickies.
What some of you have failed to note however is that I've been through this before, multiple times, always successfully. I came here to boost my confidence that I was doing the right thing because I'm unwell and not always sure of myself now so I wanted to talk through the process.
I didn't expect to get nasty comments.
As it transpires I have done exactly the right things. Management from the retailer have now replied to my direct e-mail expressing deep concern that their employee gave the wrong information and had a bad attitude. They have been in touch with my regimental association to apologise.
I am confident the matter will now be resolved within the rules of the Sale of Goods Act.
I hope you will forgive me for saying however that, should anything similar happen in the future, I would be reluctant to return here for advice because no-one likes to be abused. I hope those who made acerbic comments will realise now that even grizzled old wounded veterans like me who are very unwell have a mind of their own and don't need talking down to.
Thank you to those who were kind and who offered sensible ways to progress the matter and educate me on SOGA. I shall now leave the thread.0 -

You have received a goodwill gesture. This is not the same as asserting your rights under SoGA.0 -

I think it's more that some posters want a certain route of action taken. Which is IMO entirely correct, if people take different courses of action it often makes the situation worse. Which is why you often don't see a "OK, try that and see if it works and then go back to the usual legal method", it's more usually posted by the many knowledgeable posters here that "it should be done like this" because that's the most legally effective route.0
