phone insurance Is there any good ones?

Ok had to make a claim on home insurance and all ok , but concerned that I do not want to claim again if it happens again , So I have been looking at seperate insurance with independant co's and packaged bank accounts.

All I read is it does not matter who you go with (mobile provider, bank or insurance co) there are masses of horror stories, The phone is on O2 and bank with Barclays.

Are there any people that actually do pay out and not hid behind small print!

Never had phone insurance. The cost just doesnt stack up. They want far too much.

You can buy a cheap phone for less than a couple of payments on most policies.

I have a new galaxy s4. So in the same league as the iphone.

If you break it then you get a cheaper one until your contract is up or you save enough for the next model which will probably be out not long after anyway.

Its a phone its not a life and death thing.

I bet there are phones for less than a years worth of insurance that will do the same job.

I have mobile insurance through my Nationwide flexplus a/c which is administered by Lifestyle Services Group Limited. Not sure if Lifestyle do stand-alone policies, but on the one occasion I've had to claim, they processed it quickly with no messing or attempts to wriggle out of paying.

Hi, I think it depends how clumsy/careless people are.

I have had mobiles since they first appeared and usually top of the range ones.

I have never dropped/damaged /lost or had a phone stolen.

Just think of the money I would have wasted by taking out insurance.

I wonder if all these people claiming on mobile insurances actually inform their house insurance provider that they have made a claim??

You say that you dont want to claim on your home insurance again but if you claim on a separate mobile insurance you still have the honestly answer the question " have you had any claims/losses " when completing home insurance quotes.

keith1950 is technically right that most insurers will ask about losses or accidents even if you did not claim on your home policy. Some will just note the incident and it will not affect no claims discount and if it was insured on another policy they may not even do that.

You can of course get gadget insurance which will cover mobile phones but you need to check t&cs carefully to make sure the cover is suitable for what you expect.

I would agree that it is best to avoid a 2nd claim on your contents insurance as more than 2 claims in 3 years can cause issues obtaining future insurance.

As stated by forgotmyname, I would tend to try to be more careful with my phone and if something happened, just replace it with a cheap phone until I can upgrade (unless you can't bear to be seen with anything less than the latest model! :D)

Add up how much you would pay to insure the phone as opposed to what you would get back (less any excess fees). Ultimately it's up to you if you think there is a high risk that you would want to claim again for the phone.
