Computer Cleanup: Samsung laptop

My four or five year old Samsung R580, core i3 has crawled to a near halt (particularly around windows updates) so I'm following closed's clean up guide. I know there will be a lot of guff in the HJT log...

I'm scared of losing irreplaceable photos etc. so doing it the hard way until I can back up everything.

Why not back up everything first and then do it the easy way? :)

You should ALWAYS have backups of anything you dont want to lose.

All our family photo's are now duplicated across several computers and on different hard drive within that computer.
