Hi all,
I bought a Focus back in June and in July reported clutch rattle which I believed to be the DMF. I took the car back to the dealers who I bought it from and after many many phone calls, they said nothing was wrong. Anyway, long story short, they made an unexpected phone call one day to say that the car had been to Ford for a second opinion and advised that my issue was down to the clutch slave clylinder, so this was replaced (have an Evans Halshaw invoice to confirm).
The issue was never fixed and the car was rattling in neutral, difficult to get in gears and just pig awful to drive. Evans Halshaw refused to do anything about it after many visits and the finance company weren’t too bothered either, despite another Evans Halshaw telling me that there was a leak and definitely a fault (have written proof from them)!
So, at the cost of £650 I had the car repaird myself; a new clutch, dual mass flywheel and more concerningly, a new clutch slave clylinder. When I questioned the mechanic about this, he confirmed that the slave clyinder was leaking and advised that no parts had been replaced recently (he's given me these as proof). Also, he's stated (and I have the part again to prove it) that the clutch was VERY badly warn and the flywheel shows signs of heat damage.
As the car is now fixed, I think it's fair that I want an explination why the above was missed when Evans Halshaw had the gearbox and clutch removed in July and why they lied about changing the cylinder. It has also come to light that the car was 'serviced' by them in May this year, yet the air filter was an original Ford part and the filthiest I've ever seen! The filter was covered in literally thick black muck and feathers etc! Also, the car has now been serviced by Ford themselves and confirmed that the oil fiter has not been changed in a while (they gave me the part to prove this also).
My question to you guys though is this; how far can I take this? As I'm sure you can imagine, I am absolutely livid with what's gone on and the money I've had to spend, do you think I'm in a position to ask for a refund for the work I've had to have done?
Thanks guys!

You have the proof. You offer it to those that should pay, and ask that they pay. If they don't you take them to court, and even if they do, you let trading standards know about it too.

Trouble is, EH are a terrible company..... The middle management, more concerned with making themselves look good, put pressure on the staff to hit unrealistic targets. When this filters down to the service technicians, you start to see jobs not actually being done.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Don't know what you can get off them.
The heat damage on the dmf could have been caused by previous owner abuse or the previous owner labouring the engine with too few revs causing excess vibration which the dmf will overheat trying to deal with.
I assume you could go down the small claims court route or SOGA.
But at least you now have a much better Focus than you bought.
Should give you many years service.
Next time use a big car supermarket.
Stack me high, sell em cheap with turnover the king.0
