Need help! Moving to Bath from Ireland

What about looking at cheap roomshares for now - something you can rent short-term with little notice, travel light if possible so you don't have more than a car's worth to move house with, and you can get an idea of where you want to live on a long-term before you commit.
I did houseshares for a while and even within the same town, there were some houses I preferred and some I didn't. You should find it easy enough to find a room and shouldn't require lots of notice if you decide that area isn't for you. And if you rent a room out, bills inclusive, there's no worries about being tied to contracts or faff around changing addresses for utility bills or anything if you want to move within a month or two.
No matter how many recommendations you get, everyone is different, so you won't know until you've tried it. And another benefit, if you find a house to share with people of a similar age or with similar tastes, instant friends to socialise with!0 -
I've lived on the outskirts of Bath all my life and work in the city centre.
It is very expensive to rent and my colleague recently had terrible trouble finding an affordable one bed flat, they can be a bit scarce!
Whilst you may have a car, getting from Trowbridge from Central Bath can be a bit of a pig as it involves using the London Road which can be very busy in the mornings and evenings (and all the times in between
) - from pretty much anywhere else getting to Trowbridge involves a tortuous route through relatively minor roads etc. however you may not mind that, it put me off a job there though!
In the bigger scheme of things Bath is very safe, even the 'dodgy' areas are safe by other cities standards. I would avoid Fox Hill, Snow Hill and Whiteway, trouble is houses here are unlikely to be labelled as such on details so you will need to ask where they actually are.
If you go for the city centre parking is on permits and can be hard to find a space.
Fabulous, amazing city though - I wouldn't want to work or live anywhere else - well maybe north cornwall
