V+ no longer made, I had problems with mine, turned out to be a fault on their system. Replacement Tivo would cost £5.00 a month extra, my V+ cost is £0.00 a month. Suppose I could buy one as a reserve, engineer told me Virgin don't have any V+ stock left. He said mine belonged in a museum, I told him, it's trouble free apart from when they try sending update signals. They must want me to upgrade to a TiVo and pay an extra fiver a month & issue a new 18 month contract!

VM keep track of all boxes (serial number, mac address etc) and will not activate them to your account unless they've supplied them.

From memory they also blacklist units that have been lost/stolen.

So as any box used on their network needs to be paired with a card, and authorised by their servers buying one is pointless.

  • One thing puts me off the missus will panic when the capita muppets knock and say you have a TV you need a licence even though its only live TV you need one for. She will panic.

Capita operate on fear and intimidation but they have as much legal powers as a door to door salesman. Just ignore the letters and if they knock on your door, slam the door in their face or just don't answer it. They're not allowed to be filmed, so often run away if you start recording them.

They earn a basic salary of £14000 a year and will do anything for their commission.

If you have phone and broadband with them, you can get the TV M for free, which will give you the tivo box with free view channels.

the v+ isn't used by virgin anymore, its either their standard HD box, or tiro
I do have all 3 services with them. I've rang several times over the last month or so to get prices for dropping various channels/boxes. They never mentioned the TV M for free though - The best they could do was offer me TIVO (which I don't want), upgrade my BB speed to 30 MB and this will save me £18 p/m

Thanks for all your responses, at least I now know it would be 'illegal' to purchase my own box!
