You tell them to come and inspect it. If they are happy they pay cash if not they can walk away.

I don't agree with that. I always put "you're bidding to buy, not come and kick the tyres, haggle or change your mind" and I've seen that or very similar on countless eBay car auctions. I've never had a problem selling a car on eBay. I do, however, offer an inspection prior to the end of the auction if required, so people can choose to bid if they want.

Just thought I'd update this. Auction ends in 90 minutes - no further bids yet and no contact from the one bidder about coming round for an inspection which I think is quite odd so I'm not holding my breath on this bidder paying... the saga continues :)

There will be more twists and turns to come than a rattlesnake with a hernia (as one Mr Waddell so famously said) :)

Still no further bids though.... :(

You can put it on your auction but if they come and the car isn't as described then they're fully entitled to walk away.

As expected, one bid, no payment, no contact, nada... Probably some poor sap who bid on it by mistake and is too rude to let me know. Ah well, I'll give him 48 hours and then relist it is then, you never know your luck

  • That's a bummer, maybe try an ebay classified car selling ad next time, you pay a listing fee upfront so no extra fees at the end, and there is no bidding a buyer makes contact with you directly instead. You can run the ad for a while am sure 4 weeks and put a tel number on for direct contact and no messing with bids and emails. Better luck next time. You can also put best offer and set a minimum price you will accept.

It works for me. Buyers feel better knowing they dont have to buy it if it turns out not to be what they were expecting.

I think because of that i get slightly higher bids.

They come and do not feel under pressure to hand money over for something that maybe not quite as good as the pictures.
Never had a problem also. I usually describe every flaw in minute detail.

    Works for me.

    Quick update....

Sold the car on Facebook on Friday night, picked up on Saturday, job done. Still no reply from my ebay 'buyer'. How do I record non-payment and not pay any more fees than the £10 ebay have already charged me? I'm guesing it's via opening a case but I'd rather not to be honest.
