Discovered huge default from Max Recovery whilst on an IVA!

Options
Hi,

My husband and I have just been checking his credit file as he finishes his IVA at the end of this month and we were hoping to take advantage of the Help to Buy Scheme and get a mortgage and we wanted to see where we stood with all that.

However upon opening his file, we've found that there is a default notice from a Max Recovery dated May 2008, under our old address stating that he defaulted on £65 and he now owes £2224!!
It doesnt say which creditor Max recovery is acting for.

My husband was with Promise debt solutions since 2006 and it covered all creditors, we had a few issues with Barclays who were not cashing the cheques Promise were sending them and took action with a ccj. This was sorted by Promise and that was the last we heard from Barclays and all the other creditors were happy with the agreement.
In Dec 2008 Promise put my husband onto an IVA and all the creditors were statisfied again. We then moved house also in the Dec of 2008.

This is the first time we've checked my husbands credit file since taking the free trial with experian back in 2006 (we always assumed it would just say bad credit) so it's had our old address on it, although all the creditors have had a copy of our new addresses and we've been registered to vote at our current address for 3 years.

So to see this huge default from Max Recovery is a massive shock! Especially as we were under the impression that things were finally starting to look up finacially. :(

The IVA has been transfered to Grant Thornton so we will be ringing them in the morning.
I was just wondering if anyone had any advice they could give us to put our minds at ease?

Thanks in advance
Rach

Assuming it's your debt, you did default on it by entering the IVA, so it is correct.

  • Creditors are entitled to default you prior to entering the IVA and any defaults entered will fall off after 6 years.

The IVA will also stay on your credit file for 6 years from the date of approval.

You will find it very difficult to obtain a mortgage with an IVA on your credit file, so after you have your completion certificate you can clean up your credit file of the IVA and any defaults

From what you say I think you've reactivated your membership of our credit monitoring service. If so, please make sure he updates his profile with the new address, to make sure you're seeing all of the information.
