AppleCare?

My laptop died so am looking to purchase a Macbook Pro - was going to order it from Apple when I noticed that John Lewis currently offers a 3 year warranty at no cost.

What's the difference?

Many thanks in advance!:o

  • I did search here but nothing turned up. Google had many conflicts unfortunately.
  • Applecare is more comprehensive than any 3rd party warranty.

If you have applecare, should anything happen to the macbook then apple will usually replace it on the spot with a new one. With a third party warranty its usually sent off to be repaired at an apple authorised repair centre and could be gone for weeks on end. Applecare also includes full telephone support for both software and hardware, which you won't get with a 3rd party warranty.

Given the choice, I'd buy from apple directly and get applecare.

I bought my imac in 2008 directly from Apple. I have just had a graphics card replaced for free under EU consumer law. I did not need to push Apple on this, but had mentioned the general problem noted for this particular card.

In the Apple store the process was direct, helpful and resolution-oriented. A little yoof-funky but then I am old-grumpy.

Praise where it's due - this went beyond what I expected. I am definitely replacing this imac with a new one next year or soon after. Damn the cost - the computing experience makes it worthwhile every day and with this level of service you are sure of where you are with the product.

  • Thanks guys - I have had nothing but brilliant service from John Lewis in the past and given the free 3 year warranty, I was quite tempted!

    Decisions!
  • They don't.
