Laptop fast processor?

If it's just for web browsing, then go for the cheaper one. A dedicated graphics card isn't going to make very much difference to the speed of the laptop under basic use.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
No, it's not just for web browsing, my husband plays a game called 'Rise of Nations'.
So do I go for the i5, which is cheaper, but doesn't have the graphics card - or the i3 - dearer but it has the graphics card.0 -

If that is the case, then I hope you are getting a hefty discount on a used machine.0 -

So get the hefty "Display model discount", it is still a used machine.0 -
Should I go for this one:-
£459.00 - ASUS i3 with Nvida GeForce 720 Graphic Card

or
£379.00 - Acer i5

The laptop will be used for browsing and playing 'Rise of Nations'
Many thanks0 -
The saving is £80.00.
I'm totally confused.

Went to Currys/pcworld tonight. Found two laptops I liked - one was an Acer i5 for £379. I also found another Acer which was reduced to £399 (prev £479) - it is an i3 but it had a Nvadia GT720 graphic card.
I sort of talked myself in getting the dearer one but it's only an i3. I'm supposed to go and pay for it tomorrow after they have restored it to the factory setting. I thought it would be better if my husband played the odd game on it. But now I'm not sure.
I've tried finding the machine on line but oddly, it isn't even mentioned on the currys/pcworld website.
Anyone got any ideas. Should I really go for the cheaper i5?
Many thanks

When they state - a dedicated graphics card - you may imagine, a separate card as in a separate board - but they simply mean a separate chip - (possibly more importantly) that the memory is not shared with the main memory (it can use up to 2Gb of memory - which, if you have 4Gb RAM - can only leave 2Gb !!) - but don't look on this as being the be-all and end-all - shared memory WILL slow down your laptop slightly (depending on the specs and will may not display as well as a separate graphics "card" - but a faster processor may more than make up for this loss
And - to be honest - I doubt very much whether you will notice the difference in video quality - so buy the cheaper i5 model and add a little memory (an extra 4Gb will make a big difference) and get the best of both worlds for less money....
I would go for the faster processor every time !!
Why have you limited your purchase to Currys/PC world ?0 -
Thank you. I will get the i5 instead.0

if he is going to be playing games, then i would go for the one with a dedicated GPU. An i3 is perfectly decent for everyday tasks.
If rise of nations is the only game he plays, and has no plans on playing newer ones, then you could get away with the cheaper as, as the integrated graphics will generally handle the older games ok0
