    If you're replacing all the plaster in a room you can use wallboard first and then skim with plasterboard finish or general purpose plaster. This way you get a level base to start with.

    Surface finish is normally done freestyle (to a depth of 3 - 4mm). It's a piece of cake after the first wall. I've done a whole house like this - although no one believes me.

    Two things I would recommend:

    1. Buy a plaster mixer - you will be mixing a lot!

    2. Use Thistle plaster - it's so much nicer to work with :)
