Nuisance Call registry

Hi sorry if I've posted in the wrong place, but its my first time. We had been plagued by nuisance calls, cold calls PPi you had an accident etc.ect.One evening I took a call from a company called Nuisance call registry and they talked me through how they could stop us receiving these types of calls for a one of payment of £42.99 so I agreed purely because I was sick of these calls disturbing our evenings ( we were averaging 6/7 per night) so I made the payment over the phone using my credit card ( 18th October) received email confirmation, then the calls were reduced significantly. Anyway this week 11/11/13, we started receiving calls again, so I logged on and retrieved the information I was sent to look for a tel.no. only to find the page on the website with the following message...".Due to circumstances beyond our control, Call nuisance registry has been forced to cease trading"

I have tried to email them, address cannot be found.
Question is have I been scammed, can I ask my credit card provider for a refund, if so is there anything I need to quote certain acts etc. or do I just put it down to bad luck and forget about.
Thanks
Sharron

Yes, ask them to do a Chargeback. Read the MSE guide.
  • Hi thanks for that, however the guide advises its only for purchase over £100

When did you sign up to the service?

No, the >£100 limit is for Section 75 claims. The guide posted mentions Section 75, but only to contrast it with the Chargeback rules. Keep reading.

Just for the benefit of the OP and for other readers of this thread, have a read of the following...

Nuisance Call Registry will have taken your number and registered it with the telephone preference service. For this they've charged you £43 for a service which is free.

There's a certain irony in responding to one of these cold calls in the hope that they'll stop the cold calls... They're just shysters like the rest of the companies calling you.

I had signed up with this company in March 2013,then in august they said I was still getting calls and it was my fault because I was doing competitions and stuff online. So I paid another fee to stay on the register. Then in November they said because I was still getting nuisance calls sold me a Call Blocker for £56.42. told me it would take 28 days to get here. Have not received it. Now seen that they have ceased trading. Is there anything I can do to get the money back?

Contact your bank about a chargeback for non-delivery of the Call Blocker.

There is a link to MSE's Chargeback article in the first reply on this thread.
