I use anti bac on kitchen surfaces and try and use cleaning products that arent bleach heavy. But Im not obsessed with cleaning (Im not dirty btw, I just dont spend my life with cleaning spray in my hand). I have allergies, not caused by cleaning products, but some cleaning products dont agree with me, Ive had dermatitis on more than a few occasions, same with washing powder, I now use those eco balls, you dont get a soap smell off the clothes.

Ive also got pets. I remember when I was small we had a budgie and it was killed by fumes from a neighbour and her over zealous cleaning of the communal areas, think it was Vim that killed it.

I try and use eco products when I clean and one thing I never use is air freshener, its apparently not very good for the lungs.

Pauline when you say 'eco products' do you actually buy those? because the best eco friendly products are those that have been used for cleaning since the year dot!
vinegar is brilliant, so is Bicarbonate of soda, Lemon Juice, and salt! oh and good old fashioned Soap! all eco friendly! and all remarkably cheap!

She's has been like it since she was a child after a teacher caught her not washing her hands and gave her a lecture about how germs can kill everyone including her mummy & daddy :(

Again we tried telling her about the chicken pox and cleaning not preventing it but she just couldn't accept it kept calling herself a terrible mother.

This makes me so sad for the children. Bleach is a dangerous thing, I work in a line of work where it is used frequently for exactly the purposes discussed in this thread. One colleague has developed asthma and cannot be in the same room as bleach now, I'm sure their career-long exposure has caused the development of this hypersensitivity.

Get baby on the tit. That's the best way of building his/her immunity.

    Beautiful.

I use anti bac products but I'm not OTT in general, we need exposure to germs. However when one of us is sick the bleach and sprays are out in force!

    Happy moneysaving all.

All those little kids who are raised in sterile environments get a mighty reality check when they start school. I sat in class shuddering today as a kid sneezed into her hand several times, and then thought nothing of smearing all the gunk across her desk. She cleaned that up herself. Something tells me she doesn't live in a show home as I had to explain what the anti-bac cleaner was :rotfl: Start building that immune system early and expose them to a few germs is my advice.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Except antibac cleaners/hand cleaners kill bacteria and not viruses - colds and flu are caused by viruses so antibac would be totally ineffective. Hot water and soap would be better.

We all clean, its just that I prefer to have a product with anti bacterial in it. I'll stick to what I said before...

I don't live in a sterile bubble by the way.

You clean your kitchen with a lovely orange smelling antibacterial cleaner and what do you have? Millions of lovely orange smelling germs that your antibacterial cleaner hasn't killed......none claim to kill all bacteria or germs and needless to say they don't.

We live in an environment of bacterial balance and germs are essential for our health and well being (our gut and skin are covered in them and without them we wouldn't survive)....unless you are someone with a compromised immune system then it's overkill in a domestic setting.....hot soapy water is more than enough.

It's a bit like trying to keep all the air out of your house because some of it might be contaminated.

Do kids even make mud pies anymore?

We used to get covered going in the garden, playing with worms, creepy-crawlies, everything. We wouldn't get 'disinfected' going back inside, we'd get moaned at for being so filthy and put in the bath.

I do, but Ive also cleaned with vinegar and bicarb of soda as well and also tea tree oil. I do need to buy more vinegar and use it for cleaning.

Money saving as well. Im not too good with chemicals due to my skin issues (eczema etc) so the more natural the better for me really.
