I would think that you would get a top up with income support, I am in the same boat, I am 45 single and I get £89.90 a week incap benefit, but I also get DLA high rate of mobility and middle rate of care, this work's out at £352.60 a month paid every 4 weeks, so I would apply for DLA as well as incap ben, also if he get's middle rate of care you should be able to get carers allowance for looking after him, my son (single) get's it for looking after me and he get's £74 aweek, not much to live on but enough to pay the bills, and if you go very very carefull with it, a little something left at the end of the month for a treat.
hope this help's

it's an age thing, the younger you are the more you get, as I am 45 I don't get as much as you cos I am older, and also I haven't been on incap for that long, just afew year's really.MRSMCAWBER wrote: »Hi there

Would he be able to do office based work? Why not speak to people at teh job centre about what sort of adaptions or support may be available for him / his employer?"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

Are you sure carers allowance is that high. According to directgov it says "The weekly rate is £48.65" and you must care for them for 35 hours a week or more and not earn any more than 87 a week.

the £81.35 is the long term rate, usually payable after 52 weeks.
weeks 1-28 it is £61.35 with £37.90 for an adult dependant.
weeks 29-52 it is £72.55 with £37.90 for an adult dependant and £9 for the first child and £11.35 for each other child
after 52 weeks it is £81.35 with £48.65 for the adult dependant (same as beforefor children) plus an age addition of £17.10 for under 35's and £8.55 for those aged 35-440
