Help playstation 2 won't work!

Good evening, can anyone help? my 10 year old sons ps2 won't work, everytime we load a disc it just says "the disc could not be read", does anyone have any advice, i am hopeless with anything like this...thank you in advance Jess.....

Could be the laser given up... Try cleaning it or turning the console upside down (an old trick that worked with my old fat PS2)

Yep it sounds like the laser, they are replaceable the cost is about £40 depending on the PS2 version and Im not talking fat and slim there are loads of different versions.

Try cleaning the disc first. Any grease or fingerprints on it makes it unreadable. Try a lens cleaner(about £4) which should clean the lens and may solve th problem. Do thse two things before paying out serious money to anybody.

does it do it all the time no matter what disc you put in and how many times you switch it on and off. If so it will be the laser. If it happens regularly but not always then it just needs cleaned.

It is also possible to adjust the height of the laser in the ps2 ther eis a POT in the drive that you can adjust up of down and sometimes that revives them but in the long run the laser is on its way out.
