What to do after an accident?

Trying to help a friend so would appreciate some advice please.

She and her partner are on a joint JSA claim, they are under occupying by two bedroom but by scrimping and saving they have managed to pay the top up.

Unfortunately, last weekend, he was involved in a serious RTA and is currently critically ill in ICU on a ventilator.

What does his partner need to do about informing the Benefit Agency? Does she need to make a claim in her own right - or a joint claim? And which benefit? Can she claim back any of her travel expenses for hospital visiting as its £7-odd for each return bus trip?

Any help/advice would be really appreciated

    Check out this site http://www.nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcosts/Pages/Travelcosts.aspx

........You cannot claim help with travel costs, if you are visiting someone in hospital. However, visitors in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits may be able to receive assistance in the form of a Discretionary Care Grant. Further information about this assistance can be obtained from your local council. Search for your local council now.....

    I hope it helps x
